I take issue with this because now your tank just became an ad. There is a section for your wares and to support your business. I personally do not feel a tank in the awards is the place for it & would demerit the show.

      again, my personal opinion only.

      I agree.
If dealers want to post their fish that could easily be put in the vendors section to sell their fish and advertise, just like "LIVE" koi shows

Keep the ideas coming. I see some that would be just changes in the rules, others that would not be hard to add, and then some that are a LITTLE WILD.

What about dealers own personal fish, I'm sure Steve wouldn't want to put his personal fish in the Vendors section

Personal fish are different I would assume.

Eric had said do dealers, and post name with a contact number.. so that would be dealing.

That is a little lop sides to me, if a vendor is entering his own personal fish, why would they even want to post a number if the fish isn't for sale.

Right. That's what I was thinking.

Like If I am a dealer, but I have personal fish, then I get treated like everyone else and get to post my personal fish.

I do not however get to post fish for sale or advertise in that section.

How about instead of a dealer section, we have a "fish available for sale" category. So anyone (not just dealers) can compete (and possibly sell) fish in that category.

Here is the catch -- all fish entered in that category pay an entrance fee, and those are the fees that support the show, ribbons & show software updates. Also keeps it free to enter for the rest of us.

Also it would facilitate a way for amateurs to sell off a few fish every now and then, so we can make room for more new fish -- because none of us seem to be able to resist getting more new fish.....

If I am incorrect please correct me but the idea of the Dealer class is for dealers to be able to show their personal stock (the ones they personally own) not for sale stock. So dealers will be showing against other dealers leveling the playing field.Ie the dealers will not be showing against people who possibly buy from them avoiding the potential drama of "they saved the best for themselves" ect ect ect. If people have fish for sale they should get a vendor page in my opinion.

I was just thinking about the catagories and I want to be a part in the next years show atleast to help with the catagories and placement/benching of the fish I have several years of breeding and showing goldfish and koi. I have been heavily thinking about the Wakin catagory like I suggested and then what came to mind what if a person enters Watonai and where would the placement be. Then there is the tomosabas a single tailed Ryukin and the Willows a single tailed Demikin. So I propose these as the catagories and the way the pictures should be taken and the breeds suggested in the catagory...

Oranda over and under 3'' sideview
Ryukin/Fantail over and under 3" sideview
      Veiltail (Philidelphia,Chinese) sideview
Moore over and under 3'' sideview
telescope(Dolls) over and under 3'' sideview
      Butterfly over and under3'' topview
      SVR(Side view) ranchu/Lionhead over and under3'' sideview
TVR(top view ranchu) over and under3'' topview
Pearl scale (regular and Crowned) over and under3'' sideview
      Wakin/Watonai over and under3'' topview
Topview all other over and under3'' topview
      (Shunkin(?)Tosankin,Celestial,Bubble eye,Jinkin,frog heads)
Shubunkin (american,Japanese,Bristol) over and under3'' sideview
Single Tail all other over and under3'' sideview
      (Hibuna,Comets,Imperial,veiltail)
      All other variety sideview
(Tomosaba, egg fish, Pom poms, flag fin bubble eye,Willows,Phoenix hybrids and crosses)

category standards & what is most desirable

One of the things I think would be a great addition to the show website, is a detailed description of what is desirable and what will detract from the fish's standings in each category - with a bunch of sample photos.

These descriptions should be written by the judges that will be evaluating in the upcoming show. In subsequent years, the descriptions can be modified & added to by future judges, before (or the following year modified & added to)

AND after the show, the judges write a description of why they picked the winners for each of the categories. These explanations of features of the winners should be permanently displayed with pictures of those fish for reference. I know there was a chat room session that discussed this, but I had family obligations and couldn't make it to the session, and now all that SUPER VALUABLE information is GONE!!!

All these descriptions from the judges will help competitors pick better fish from their collection to enter into the show, and ultimately to help them buy better fish in the future.

Furthermore, for the new categories which we come up with here at Koiphen, we can develop our own standards and competitors can do a better job of competing in those categories.

seems like one of the many areas of concern for koiphen.com is the husbandry of koi....not just how pretty they are but how well they are maintained...often "pretty' comes at a cost...
So to promote the keeping of koi and just not the aquisition or the forced beauty....
establish a "lifetime achievement award" ...not given for the owner's lifetime but for the life time of the koi they have kept alive for the longest period of time
establish an award for the person that continues to show the same fish year in and year out. The "Content Award"...it is those keepers that are "keepers" instead of constantly wanting to purchase better and better koi.... it is these people that understand and practice that keeping koi is enjoying the koi they have.
