      Congratulations APOLONASGR36!

Unless I missed something, Apo ran away with the first part of this growout contest with one fish that reached 15 inches. Therefore, the first award, a $100 gift certificate to the WWKC Vendor of his choice goes to
      APOLONASGR36!!!

Please contact me to arrange for receipt of the award.

Everyone please remember that this award was for size only. Next November the "best fish," the fish with the most potential, and the largest fish will each win an award.

Question: does the clay builds up in your filtration system?
Jorge that stuff is amazing. I do not know were does it go but have not notice an effect on the flow of the bead filter. I use 2 oz diluted and 2 oz undiluted in the corner far from the bottom intake every other day. (Way more than I need) The first day the fish do not bother with the clay in the bottom because the have clay in the water. The second day they go and disturb it and run it thru their gills. It is gone in couple of hours. This happens over and over, time after time with no fail. I clean the bead filter twice a week, Wednesdays and Sundays. I do see the color of the clay when I back flash the bead but nothing major. The beads are having a beautiful uniform light yellow color. Before the clay, they were white almost like new because I did and still do at least 3 cleaning cycles of the beads and use the 2hp blower 2-4 minutes every a time. I do not know Gene, never spoke to him but let me tell you I endorse his product strongly.
Jorge I put 3 cups (24 oz) of clay in my 20,000 pond twice a week and the water clarity returns within hours. My ORP reading goes up 1-2 hours after I use it by 5-8 points for a day or so. The water looks great but what I see is the fish’s appetite, vigor and color improved dramatically. Use it for couple of months and you see that you will see a big difference in your pond.

I also wanted to ask a favor from all the participants. I see tremendous differences between the fish that we all raising. Some became big and lost their colors. Most were about 12 inches and their color varied from great to too red to faded red. Some stayed small. This was my first grow-out and I would love to learn the most I can. I would love to know the conditions that your fish had. Pond size, indoors or outdoors, filtration, problems you might have had (Ammonia nitrite health parasites etc) green water or clear, hard or soft, other fish with them or not, food or food combinations etc. I know this is a contest but for me it is more a learning exercise. I learned and still learning from the path that I took. I would love to learn from the paths you took.

Thanks in advance for your valuable info.

Are you implying the koi eat the clay? I thought it would dissolve into solution? Just like adding vitamins to the water.........

I do not know if they eating it or not, but 100% sure they are directly taking it in their mouths and gills. I watched them doing that.

Thanks for the link John... I'm a firm believer in Gene's clay too. I have tried others but never with anywhere near the success of Gene's. I use it in my paste food and also add it to the pond.

Again, really nice job on your winner!

Thank you very much John. It came as quite a surprise to do well at my first show. I'm finding the tosai part of the hobby very enjoyable.
