why we love bonsai, unknown author

The tree that never had to fight
for sun, and air and light
that stood out on the open plain
and always got it's share of rain
      never became a forest king
but lived and died a scrubby thing.

The man who never had to toil
who never had to win his share
of sun and sky and light and air
      Never became a manly man
but lived and died as he began.

Good timber does not grow with ease
      the strong wind....the tougher trees.
      The farther sky...the greater length
the more the storm...the more the strength

By sun and cold, by rain and snows
in tree or man, good timber grows,
where thickest stands the forest growth
we find the patriarchs of both.

and they all converse with the stars,
whose broken branches show the scars
of many winds and much of strife
this is the common law....of LIFE!

It is one at the Pacific rim Bonsai collection. A special tree, it was purchased from funds raised by friends of a cancer victim from alaska who loved her bonsai. Interesting enough,
the tree was found in Korea and during the time an offer was being made it was purchased by another collector. This Korean Gentleman, withdrew his offer after hearing the story so it could come to public view here in Washington state to honor her memory.
A fitting tribute to a beautiful tree, a special lady, and the special people who love this hobby.
