where to buy a blue koi?

my girlfriend likes blue koi...she saw a blue shusui where there was less red and more of a baby blue covering the whole back...i was wondering where i can find any type of blue-baby blue color koi...i don't know any breed that's blue-baby blue...the asagi blue is not what i'm looking for.

your basically gonna deal with shusui for that baby blue. the good news is they rapidly grow out of it and turn white.

I love blue, not a doutsu fan and rely on asagi to get me my blue. there are different grades of blue in asagi and thier color tends to be more permanent than Shusui. The blue i like is narumi, and even lighter is reverse. Breeders who breed these two include Hosokai and Otsuka. Look into them and see, I think you'd be happier with Wagoi to satify her craving for baby blue.....

Thai, I base my comments on watching hundreds of beautiful blue Shusui in the best of water quality slowly go from baby blue to white. It's a given.....Sometimes the best lessons are the ones hardest learned...yet i feel motivated to continually share what I know ( just in case someone could take advantage of it )

Kinda looks like it, but not sure. There is no reference as it is just a pic from a photo journalist's trip to Japan. Can't remember the details but it's in a large public koi pond at Maruoka Castle.

They're not all blue and I don't use dye, the pond was paint it light blue, but the fish is light blue not because the bottom is blue then you'll see the fish blue, let me see if I can find another picture that you would appreciate better but is blue, cause that's what I want to buy a blue koi, I'm going to look in all the pictures that I have if I can find a better one

Dick, I understand hard water isn't great for asagi, and that they can develop shimis. What's your experience?

Dick: The only koi I have seen keep a true blue tone for any length of time was a leather Shusui with no Hi whatsoever. Any Shusui breeder would have culled it. As it reached 20 inches the blue became light gray, somewhat like pale doitsu Soragoi lacking the size of Soragoi. A curious fish, but not very attractive after the blue turned grayish.

Thai: The blue color is an optical effect created by sumi underlying the upper skin. In a good Shusui the sumi will disperse leaving a white tone. In a poor version, the sumi 'rises' (consolidates) creating blemishes and dark tones. Occasionally in a batch of very small Shusui there will a few that seem almost electric blue. It is a passing stage of juvenile development. The same effects can be seen in Midorigoi. At a young age some specimens truly appear green. As the underlying sumi disperses with growth/age, the color becomes yellow. If the sumi consolidates in the upper skin, the fish becomes dark, splotchy and rather unattractive.

I recall being quite amazed by the first 'blue koi' I saw. And, later, quite disappointed.

The "Blue Ochiba" photo above was photoshopped. Photos can lie.

I have a blue koi, I brought it from Riverroads koi about 8 years ago. I was new to koi, they had some beautiful Shisui's thinking back but I brought the all blue doitsu... I will try to get a pic tonight but he doesn't like his picture taken. I go back to Riverroads every April looking for a perfect Shisiu and my favorite an ochiba. As for the blue koi, he is about 22inches. The blue has faded a little but I don't feed them color food anymore. Not the most attractive koi but almost everyone who see him always comments about the blue color…
