A removed snake is a good snake. A saved camera will take pics again, but a broken Max is not good! Delighted that all is well!

I hope you checked out the baby fish! It took me about 8 years to get to this point with my project. And as they say, "Be careful what you wish for. You may get it." I got thousands. They want food. They want clean water. They want names. They keep me busy! I love them all.
Welcome to the hobby and to Koiphen, KoiM.
I know we're all excited for you starting out with your 'peanuts' and will be looking forward to seeing where koi will take you.

New Pix; the kids are almost 3 mos. old.

Here's what's been going on at the Lower Pond, the nursery for the Ki Shusui Project.

First, have been worrying about feeding all these little fish as much as they want/need without blowing up the water quality. I've been writing to Matt, consulting with him, have bought a new KH kit (10-11 drops. ) and have realized through talking with him, that possibly soaking the feed pellets was a bad idea. I don't know where I got that idea to begin with, maybe it started when I began adding orange juice. But at any rate, floating, non-soaked pellets is working great as far as I can tell. My ammo level of .25 in the Lower is stable.

That may not sound great, but it is close to ideal for me, because I've been able to double the amount of food I'm feeding the babies from one to two full cups of 3mm pellets, plus all the 5mm pellets they can steal from their frustrated parents -- 6x a day.
I think this stable .25 is partly due to no food rotting on bottom of the pond and also, I've changed my inflow/outflow a bit.

I'm now running two outflow pumps, (total 600 gals an hour) and have boosted my inflow to the same amount by running two well pumps at the same time for ten hours a day. I'm cheating the Big and Middle Ponds of some well-water for those 10 hours, but I'm doing water tests and have zero ammo in those ponds. (I only feed the fish in the Big and Middle Ponds 2x a day.) At night I turn off the sump pumps in the lower, cut the inflow down to one well, and this all seems to be working. 6,000 gals in, 6000 gals out for ten hours, then about 300 gallons an hour in for the next 14 hours, over 150,000 gals total -- > got no math skills but that's the story!

The pond is shaped like a footprint. Down at the heel is a patch of cattails about 20 x 30. At one side of the heel is little dock and the babies come running/swimming to the dock when they see me and split around the dock.
First photos are of the kids at one side of the dock.

I feed the dock neighborhoods, then, walk around the heel and when I get to the middle of the heel, I feed the cattail neighborhood of babies. After that, I continue around to the other side of the heel and feed the hordes that clump up there. I've recently seen that the fishes meet me over there! From the other side! You'll see a photo of kids all pointing their little faces at me. Those are some of the ones who have made the swim across to me. It's hilarious that they know me and how long it takes to walk around the heel.

Next, showing random pix of the kids at the rock with the new gate (not pictured) There is so much turbulence there, it makes for some really distorted kid photos. What can I do? Catch and bowl them, I guess. Soon. When John Clark pays a visit to the Pond, I'll ask him to help. Meanwhile, i did manage to catch a few last week and the bigger ones top 4".

You'll see many sizes of koi babes. I'm looking mostly at the ones with white or gray/blue color with yellow markings, of course! The fish that are all yellow or green/yellow are midori. If green/yellow fish has a blue zipper, that's what we have called "midori-shusui" around here. Plain orange fish will be re-homed along with about 2,700 midoris and others! That said, I think colors and patterns are still developing.

The last photo is at the Rock neighborhood. Maybe you can see the Dock neighbors swimming over for a double dip.

Okay, I'm warmed up for loading photos! Stand by. All thoughts on feeding, water, water quality, whatever! are welcome.

That huge crowd of little koi is stunning Max! Is this your biggest spawn ever? The close-up photos show some nice prospects in there. Considering the great numbers, I suspect you will be very pleased this fall with the group you will have to grow on. Keep up the good work.

      Matt, thanks so much!
Yes, it is my biggest spawn ever which is why i have so many questions for you.

The kids are having fun, but the oyagoi are not amused.

Kevin - I have given them Hikari plankton tiny, middle and late, along with brine shrimp, blood worms and other stuff. Started grinding up my Blackwater Creek GoldN medium pellets for them -- what I feed the bigs. Then, bought some 3mm pellets from Tom at Seaside and we're going through that at good clip.
      They like.

Thank you, Gallagher. The whole mess know me. It's unreal. They see me coming down the hill and start a riot, race like crazy for their feeding spots. . Made myself laff.

Don't want to jinx her, but this is my new fave.
