Here are two of phil balshi's images of my humble learning curve pond fish that i love, love, love. The hariwake, in the flesh, is in a post on the previous page.

Hi, Darkstar!
I do like metallic fish, my only issue is that they work against my ki shusui program in that shusui standards have it that shusui is not metallic. I have a few metallic fish in the Learning Curve Pond; ogons and hariwakes and one that i can't put a name to. Hoping someone will look at the one that is like silver chain mail with red in fins and tail. What is it or what kind of cross?
Anyway, a flawless platinum ogon is one of the prettiest fish ever IMHO. I have two that i cannot give away.
but to answer your question, if I don't have room for them in the Learning Curve Pond, I must rehome them.

IMHO, The Koi in the first tub (from the Learning Curve Pond, competing for food, etc.) look better than the second (lower) tub, at least in terms of color / definition.
Even though they received fewer feedings and had to compete for food due to larger numbers, they relied and fed more heavily on the duckweed ?
(If I'm wrong don't worry about saying it. It's a learning curve (pond) ) LOL
I sat here scrolling down the photos and DH said "you look mesmerized" Straight up! I had all I could do to keep from drooling.
It looks like very hard work (and FRIGID to boot!), but it still seems like everyone had a good time and the "net result" ~ Pun intended ~ was some truly fantastic fish!
Brava!
re: Duckweed - Some time ago I read a paper about the nutritional value for fish and tried some in my pond. The Koi loved it, unfortunately they ate it faster than I could grow it. If I could figure out a 'system' I'd do it again. I had a flat shallow floating net with the duckweed and one of my koi got so enthused about it she actually vaulted herself on top of the net to get it.
So now what? You sort out your records, document everything with corresponding photos, and wait for measuring the spring grow-outs and the new spawns?
Hi, Darkstar~
Thanks for the analysis and I, too, was impressed by the flashy colors in the Learning Curve Pond kiddos.
That said.
As a scientific experiment, I realize this was not random selection.
The 750 nisai were culled/divided into three separate ponds in MAY 2018. I made a decision on who got to stay in the lower pond based on the pale color of the fish, lateral ki markings and size.. I made sure I had some kids that were Big and that I had enough of them with good zippers to offset those with good everything else but incomplete zippers.. By now I have determined that the paler the background color, the better the ki stands out/ looks. And that may mean less fish in future with smudgy backs and also, paler fish with ki pattern means fewer midori. That's why the Lower Pond fish are pale. And the kids inside the Lower Pond tub, (you cannot see in the picture and I can't either!) have ki on the flanks and bellies. They all have some ki
AND. I haven't gotten rid of any of them.
Come May 2019, I get another look at as many of these fish as I can (get John to) pull.
Certainly the 95 kids in the Lower Pond will be scrutinized for form, size, skin, and color and winnowed down to a couple of dozen. That's the plan!
They were hatched in 2016.
By 2019 they will be two years old and I should be able to see which are heading for parenthood in 2019 or 2020.
Between now and then, I get to do other things.
Please tell your DH thanks for noticing that I was mesmerized!
I see that and that this process makes me happy.
This picture of Phil shooting me holding Legacy is how I wish to be remembered.
P.S. Duckweed. Everything I know about it, I learned from Heather about a week ago. See links above. I don't know how I got so much of it. It certainly ruined a lot of pictures. And I don't know how I got such huge blankets of it in all three ponds. The fish definitely liked it for shade, but I only saw them eating it if pellets were on top. That said, if they get the munchies on a warm winter night, I've got them covered.

Yes, there’s no doubt that was a loaded question but I was always one to bite the bullet. I was visualizing the police tape and flashing lights as I typed.
It’s a good thing you’re the one doing the sorting and not me.
Come 2019 - 2020 you’ll see which are headed for parenthood. Dear Lord woman, you have the patience of a saint! It’s like working in the photo studio darkroom waiting for the film to develop .... but it takes a year!
Obviously you’re doing everything right! Looking forward to Spring!

Candy, you gave me a big LOL. thanks for the welcome home!
I'm not sure this fish ever reached you, but she was named "Candy" by a koiphriend, cannot remember who.
She was hatched here, product of a flock spawn, lives is in the Big Pond, aka the Ki Shusui Project pond, and I think she looks like her name. She is a shusui for sure, but I don't know if this pattern has a name.
Anyone?
In real life, Candy-the-koi and alllllllll the rest are in torpor. Big snow coming in for the weekend.
