first pick (draft) & got the one I wanted... #4
Here they are, straight out of the shipping bag. Kind of funny to open a box with no idea what to expect other than black-and-white. They are a bit stressed (slightly pink), but seem fine... no obvious bruising or other shipping injuries... and not too freaked out at all. At this writing...
About 4" of growth over winter
I bowled my SU today, 10-15-08 cuz I'm not sure if I'll get a chance to do it again in two weeks. Water temps been in the 50's for over a week, so I doubt they're eating much anymore. Here's before and today pics. It's hard to get a pic. with her lined up and straight against the ruler markings...

Well I just received my four shiros from a random draw. The third picture with the two shiros in it the one on the left had some redness on the head. Same with the fourth one. It will be nice to see how they develop over the next few years.
OK, adding pictures to the growout section. Two shiro utsuri.
I have had a couple shiro utsuri in my history, but nothing as good in a blood line as this. I'm excited about this growout. I know I'm not the only ponder out that there that has tried SUs before only to be disappointed in the long run. I have my hopes up that the blood line will produce some...
Well I should have 2. Jessie kept them for me for 2 weeks until I could get over to get them. I took 2 home. Put them in a 900 gallon stock tank. Moved them today to a 300 gallon tank (with cycled filter) Uhh... Well here is the picture of one. I cannot find the other one  I'm...
Here are pictures of my Sugarloaf Growout SU. They came to me on May 28th. I kept them in a q-tank for over 3 months and put them in the pond the first part of September. When I brought them in they were measured. The smallest (Misty) is 10 inches and the bigger one (Sugarloaf) is 11 inches. ...
my official posting of my 2 shiro. random pick the more white one(my pick) is around 10 inches. the black one picked by daughter and named Orca around 9 inches. wife took pics wonder if she knew they were being posted?
my two shiro utsuris are number 2 and number 12 in these pictures...
Today was they day to take the new guys out of QT and move them to thier new digs with the big ones. So Bill OTMS and I get them bowled and measured. They came in right about 6 inches and are going into the big pond at about 10 inches Pics 1-3 - Shiro #1 Pics 4-5 - Shiro #2 Pic 6-7- the two...
I picked up my SU grow out on May 10th, so it's been about a month so far in QT. I let it rest for the first week or so with a buddy, then did a shotgun Proform C and Prazi protocol treatment. This is the first time I've had the QT outside and we had some very cool nights. I am running two large...
Here are my two!!! They started at 7.25 and 6.75 inches. I predict each will be 36in by the end:eek1: LOL!!!!

*smiling large* She's here, Eric... :yahoo: ...6.75" of squirmingly energetic loveliness! :D: She was pretty pinked up on arrival, but boy is she healthy, curious and active. You asked for pictures....muahahahahaaaa....
Here is my random pick Shiro Utsuri. A little under eight inches, Female (I think) A special thanks to Jessie and Brad!
Received 5/30/08 @ 7.5"
I'm late to the party, I know! The back story is this: Another Torontonian and I agreed to share S&H. Then, we found someone in NY State who agreed to go in with us, so we decided to ship everything to him then we would drive down and bring the koi across the border. The other Torontonian backed...
it is with great sadness that i announce i'm out of the growout. i came home from a weeks vacation and all was well with the mud pond. all 5 fish(2 shiros, 1 sanke and 2 star trek fish) came to eat. same with tues. weds thru fri. no one answered the food call. decided, again, to drain the mud...
Herez myz guyz as of Thursday 24 July.
2 arrived yesterday 1 shiro 1 showa today
Here are my 2 SU's. Both were around 5 1/2". The darker one has some hi on the chin that hopefully goes away. I have them in a 300 gallon stock tank with 2 55 gallon barrels for filtration and a dolphin 150 air pump stirring up 2 sq ft of k1 in one of the barrels and air lifting ~800 gph. I...
Forgot to post before, but I want to keep a journal. This is the most crowded by pond has ever been so don't expect great results this go around.
I didn't get a good picture when this little guy arrived. They were tired from their trip and I was anxious to get them into the QT safely. The SU was about 6" on arrival and is now about 7.5". Eating heartily. On arrival: One month later (today): That wire is a temperature...
Next to last pick in SU Draft Group A.
well there in the very temp tank thell be move to a bigger home in about a week- 2 weeks 5-10-08 7''
My growout shiro
All three are 6-7" and the sumi is really deep. Very pleased.
Before we tell you how many shiros we purchased as part of this growout, anyone care to hazard a guess? We're looking forward to watching these stunners evolve over the next year after they finish QT. Average size on these shiros appeared to be approximately 8" based on sight alone. Will measure...
They came today. This is gonna be fun!
gg4519 su growout
Here de be. Mine is the top one on the duo pic. Bottom one's Gordon Parr's aka PondBoy
I shared shipping with a fellow Koiphenner, so these pics show both of our SUs and some Sankes. Two of these beauts are destined for my urban oasis when they get out of QT: [/URL] Strangely, one of the Sankes in the shipment was a little big, even by Matt's standards: ...
Visited Ryan today to pick up my babies. He was the closest one to share shipping costs with. Really enjoyed seeing his set-up. Thankx for all the hard work you put into organizing this deal. I wanna give a big shot out to Ryan and Lee:yahoo: THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! GREAT...
Just wanted to let everyone know that my 2 shiro utsuri and 2 sanke arrived in good health today. Matt, I'm sure your busy but all went well. Took many pictures that will follow. I'm happy that I got 2 of each because there is a wide enough difference that will make it more interesting and...
Well they came this morning and look pretty good. One has a split fin but I am hoping that will heal on its own. Marie
My fish arrived this AM after a little confusion.(wrong address on lable). Thanks to Matts MRS, we tracked the fish down and I retrieved the fish from Fed Ex at 12:00 Noon. Floated them in the bag for 30 minutes and transfered to my blue bowl for pictures and inspection. All is GREAT!! They are...
and a little:rolleyes: showa thrown in to keep them company. 1st is the bigger of the two at 8.5 inches. 2nd is smaller at 6.25 inches. 3rd is the showa at 10.5 The smaller one was pinker than the others but is clearing up quickly. I'm very happy with them. Pictures don't do the showa...
Here is my cute little guy! Number 6  I can't wait to see him/her (Hopefully a HER) within the next few weeks!
Drove down to pick it up with Matt's very pregnant wife (due next week) making the random scoop. I figure on Mother's day eve, that's got to be good luck...lol! Just under 4 hours non stop ride back but it went smoothly. Here are a couple pics....
Here are the Shiros. Both look good. I like their sumi even at this age. My pond should do sumi well. Water is slightly hard. Both around 7 inches
I really just wanted the nice SU at a great price and do not care to compete especially since the pond is not done and they may be in the 300 gallon QT quite a while;) But I will share updates anyhoo. Not sure who's are who's yet, but feeling bad for my buddy John moving and having no...
Here are some of the grow outs the Sanke is mine and one of the SU. All are random pick to be split 4 ways.
here are my 2. at first glance the smaller one has more potential (in my eyes). we'll wait and see! off to the mud pond they go! will post water parameters soon. low ph, i know that!
OK...silly question, but since this is my first 'grow out', tell me what we are supposed to do. I assume we measure the fish when we get it? Can someone tell us what the usual protocol is. Do we pull, measure and take pics at certain intervals?
I was asked to make a Sticky with the information to pay Matt directly for shipping of the SU and Sanke. Those of you in Draft, Ryan has pictures and that process will begin soon. For those with all random Matt has already started shipping as long as you have paid. Here is his Paypal...
Here they are. Took a little risk with the sumi on at least one.
I'm really glad we were able to do the draft on the SU also. I ended up getting pretty much all the fish I wanted in each group. I must have different tastes, b/c in most groups my alternates or second choices seemed to go undrafted :eek1: . Except in Group B where I had 2 picks and got my top...
Dumb question but: Members in this area (Dallas) always debate whether it's better to ship koi in via Delta Dash or Continental. Never hear Fed Ex mentioned as an option. Since I have 4 beauties coming felt I better make sure - will Fed Ex deliver straight to my door as they do all other packages...
