Other than the chance of cross breeding, is there any reason that you cannot mix Koi with Shubinkin. I am referring to any negative outcome besides crossbreeding.

Besides sterile babies, mine did just fine together.

I have koi and shubunkins together in two of my ponds. They seem to do fine together.

Ours seem to like each other just fine. The koi dont seem to pick on the shubunkins like they do some of the other types of fish we've put in with them on short occasions.

Id never do it, save all the room for the Koi. Its a matter of your taste and preference. But to me shubunkins are butt ugly and Koi are as good as it gets;) Koi Id love to have five years ago Id toss in the woods now. As my taste in Koi change so does my poverty level and one step closer to divorce.
But were not all Koi Kichi on here, but Ive been off the deep end for several years. Shubunkins will hurt your Koi because they take up space and make waste. They are not nice enough to cause your Koi to not have the very best we can give them. Sorry if Ive made anyone mad, I'm just a Koi guy.

They are fine as compatibility goes, but they will breed amongst themselves and crowd out your pond if you don't get rid of the offspring quick enough.

agreed there....

500+ agreements from this past summer!

($$$$ if you can convince local pet stores to buy them off of you!)

Letting them breed is definately not a good thing :nono:
